I've come to believe that we all need a witness to our most intense fear, sorrow, shame and anger. There are deeply wounding events that occur in our lives that can't be fixed or undone. They may have happened in the past or they might be outside our control.
Yet there's much that can be done between the two extremes of doing nothing and righting some wrong. Healing exists in simply having somebody else bear witness to our pain.
We don't need the events themselves to go away, we just want and need to be validated in our emotion surrounding those events, to be heard and to be understood with love and with compassion.
Who do you trust to bear witness to your pain?
